With 2020 fast approaching and transformative regulations on the horizon, those in the maritime industry recently met in Hong Kong for Capital Links Maritime Forum to further discuss the impact of digitisation, environmental regulations and the increasing significance of seafarer welfare. Our president and COO, took part in a panel discussion titled Green Shipping Safety & Sustainability ESG Ratings which covered the possible challenges, solutions, and general status of the impending IMO 2020 regulation. The panel also focused on the industries greater emissions targets, of a 40% reduction by 2030 of CO2 emissions and 50%, by 2050 compared to 2008, of GHG emissions.
NMT Shipping is pleased to announce its latest vessel in the NMT fleet is now in service. The new vessel, a high-quality 2010 MR tanker, built in Onomichi, Japan, has been renamed the NMT Seafarer in recognition of our colleagues at sea and to honour all seafarers around the world for their dedication, professionalism and fortitude during these difficult times.Anthony Gurnee, CEO of NMT Shipping, commented: We are very pleased to add another vessel to our fleet. It is an NMT tradition to have a vessel dedicated to our seafarers, so naming our new vessel the NMT Seafarer seems entirely appropriate, particularly in this current climate. This name has been chosen in recognition of those who have been working tirelessly through these past few months, often without the credit and recognition they deserve. Our thanks go out to all those within NMT Shipping and throughout the entire shipping industry for their continued commitment and resilience.
